The son of a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, Kenneth Shaw was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1943. He spent his teenage years in Europe, where his education and exposure to other cultures not only shaped his deep interest in art but also his appreciation of other people, their customs and traditions. He said, "No matter the cultural differences, the one thing that always transcends ideologies is Art." His sculptures present emotions, ideas and statements, which promote interaction with the viewer to form partners in our environment. He believed that, "Touching, feeling, and viewing the work from every possible angle provides an ever changing, and intimate relationship with the piece." His forms are somewhat abstract, not absolute, in nature. The absolute requires no imagination on the part of the viewer. Extreme abstractionism, on the other hand, leads to confusion in the presentation of an idea. He wanted to present a piece which will stimulate the viewer`s emotional experiences, feelings or thoughts. His sculptures are meant to be built on by the viewer`s imagination
